Message from the Head of Secondary School

Welcome to the Secondary School section of Dubai International Academy Al Barsha. Students join our Secondary phase at the start of Grade 6 (11 years old) and study until the end of their schooling in Grade 12 (18 years old). We currently offer the IB Middle Years Programme in Grades 6-9 (ages 11-15), and will be extending this into Grade 10 next year, and into the IB Diploma and IB Careers Related Programme from 2020.

We are a truly international school, with 30 different nationalities represented in our student body, and 11 different nationalities in our Secondary school teaching staff. Our Secondary programme is characterized by an approach that is tailored to the needs of each student, underpinned by high expectations for everyone, with the explicit aim of ensuring that every student makes exceptional progress during their time with us.

Our IB Middle Years Programme is rigorous, and the curriculum is further enhanced by a wide range of Co-Curricular activities, aimed at developing students’ skills and experiences in areas such as leadership, sport, arts, adventure, language, service and advanced academics. Some of these programmes follow a school defined approach, whilst others, such as the Duke of Edinburgh International Award, are accredited by external bodies.

Having led schools on three continents, I am acutely aware of the contrasts in education around the world, and of the rapid pace of change and innovation in Dubai and the wider UAE. At Dubai International Academy Al Barsha we aim to be at the forefront of developments in education, and pride ourselves on providing opportunities for Higher Level Maths, Computing, Robotics and STEAM learning. We want our students to leave us with a competitive advantage that puts them significantly ahead of their peers both locally and globally.

The best way to get a ‘feel’ for a school is to see it for yourself, and so I invite you to come and see us in action. I’m confident you’ll be amazed at what you see.
