Welcome to our Middle Years Programme (MYP)!
The MYP is a comprehensive educational framework for students from Grade 6 to Grade 10. A broad and balanced system that covers eight subject groups, offering multiple subjects within groups, making connections between academic subject through inter-disciplinary learning.
Students are encouraged to apply their knowledge through real-world global contexts and learn through inquiry and concept-based methods. Academic learning is presented through the MYP Personal Project and complemented by Service as Action, culminating in a global qualification at the end of Grade 10, the MYP Certificate, which involves online assessments and portfolios of work. Beyond academics, the programme enhances personal and social skills, developing well-rounded students capable of making a positive impact on society.
The DIAB approach
We believe students should have a well-rounded education, gaining knowledge and experiencing a wide variety of subjects. This allows students to make connections between their learning and exposes them to new ideas that may spark their future passion. Our teaching methods will encompass rigorous academic knowledge with key skills (ATL skills) and character development through the IB Learner Profile.
In Grade 6 to Grade 8, all students will follow the same, broad curriculum offering the below subjects. In Grade 9, students will have the option to choose some specific subjects for Grade 9 and 10. This allows them to deepen their knowledge in the areas they enjoy most. Students and parents are guided through this options process from Grade 8, reflecting on their interests, future aspirations and potential career paths.

The Personal Project
Grade 10 students in their final year of MYP explore an area of personal interest over an extended period. It provides them with the opportunity to consolidate their learning and develop important skills they’ll need in both further education and life beyond the classroom. It also helps them develop confidence to become principled, lifelong learners. It is internally moderated and externally assessed, forming part of the MYP Certificate.
Elements of the Personal Project:
- The personal project formally assesses students’ approaches to learning (ATL) skills for self-management, research, communication, critical and creative thinking, and collaboration.
- The project is made up of a process, a product and a reflective report.
- Process — ideas, criteria, developments, challenges, plans, research, possible solutions and progress reports.
- Product or outcome — evidence of tangible or intangible results: what the student was aiming to achieve or create.
- Report — an account of the project and its impact, to a structure that follows the assessment criteria. The report describes both the process of creating the project and an evaluation of the impact of the process on the student or their learning.
- The report is assessed by the supervisor and externally moderated by the IB to ensure a globally consistent standard of excellence. Each project is awarded a final achievement grade.
Service as Action
Our MYP students strive to be caring members of the community and are expected to engage in Service activities, demonstrating a commitment to others and making a positive impact on our world. These activities not only give back to the community but help students to experience collaborating outside of the school environment and allow them to reflect on the skills they are developing.
Assessment
Assessment in the MYP is continuous and varied. Each subject will be assessed on 4 criteria and each criterion will be assessed at least twice per year. Each criteria will be graded out of a maximum of 8, with the total of the four criteria giving a combined total. This total then gives an overall level for each subject (7 being the highest, 1 being the lowest).
In Grade 10, students have the opportunity to sit for the MYP Certificate, an internationally-recognised, externally graded set of online assessments and portfolios of work.
